ciao operates across Austria’s eastern region in cooperation with our partners Wiener Linien GmbH & Co KG and Wiener Lokalbahnen GmbH. You can use it for all journeys within the VOR region.
Discover ciao: Step-by-step
1. Get started in minutes
Download ciao on your smartphone (Android 9.0+ or iOS 13.0+).
Register, add your preferred payment method — and you’re ready to travel.
2. Check in to start your trip
ciao automatically detects the nearest stop.
If it’s not quite right, you can easily choose from up to five nearby stops.
Tap Check-in before you board — your temporary ticket appears instantly.
3. Travel freely
Switch between trains, trams, or buses as you like.
ciao automatically tracks your route using GPS — and Bluetooth in underground areas.
4. Check out when you arrive
Tap Check-out once you’ve reached your destination.
Forgot to check out? No problem — ciao will remind you.
5. Always pay the best fare
ciao automatically calculates the correct ticket and applies the best possible price — even converting multiple single trips into a day pass when it’s cheaper.
Have a valid travel pass (such as a 7-day, 31-day, annual or semester ticket)?
Add it in the app and ciao will take it into account automatically.
6. Travel together
You can include up to 12 passengers before check-in — adults, seniors, or children under 15.
Dogs can also be added to your trip.
Please note that accompanying passengers with their own passes must use their own ciao account.
Good to know:
Trips beyond the VOR region are only valid up to the last scheduled stop within the network. For travel beyond, please purchase a separate ticket.
